I couldn't find if this was posted before, but I recently started the game and I find that I prefer LShift as the dodge key because its more comfortable to use. However, same goes for using it as sprint/canter. So I found that in the keybind file, unlike the in-game options menu, you can modify combat actions separately from non-combat actions. So I can use LShift for the most dominant action in either context, for dodging in combat and then sprinting/cantering in the world. I set 'sprint' during combat to LControl for the rare occasions I need it.
I was worried it might get confusing to switch it up, but so far it's more intuitive than I expected, I think because it's all about the key I intuitively want to use and not the one I've 'learned' to. Also the 'Non-Combat' keys are the ones that show up on the HUD, when I might actually look at them. But I never look at the HUD keys during combat, or at least not the ones that are vital, so it doesn't matter that they don't match during combat.This is useful for a few other things, if you want. For one, you can swap your 'map' key into one of the quick-potion slots while not in combat, if you find you bring it up and down frequently.
But in combat, it can default back to 'M' and your potion quickslots work again. You can double up 'HeavyAttack' and 'Block/Riposte' onto RightMouse and it works (tap for heavy attack, hold for block/riposte, counter-attacks still work). And then you can also make LeftMouse do random stuff like gather herbs and loot out of combat, but that's probably less vital. I tried to make it the 'talk' key, but so far it's a bit fiddly to isolate LeftMouse from the 'threaten' context action. Can't do both very well.So the trick, as basically described elsewhere, is to find 'input.settings' probably under C:UsersUser NameDocumentsThe Witcher 3. THEN MAKE A BACKUP. Open it with notepad, find the key/context you want to change, run a find and replace to replace the whole document with the non-combat preference if you want, then just search for the heading Combat and CombatReplacerCiri and edit the keys only within that to your preferred in-combat option.

I haven't found any problems so far, but if there is one you can easily restore the backup.I'm going to check if this works during the tutorial, too. I found changing bound keys from the in game options menu during the tutorial would break some of the tooltips in the past, but this might be a work-around. Man, so I didn't realise this till I was messing around now, but apparently double-tapping a direction also dodges and it feels WAY more responsive.

In either case, though, modding stuff still helps.Also for the heavy attack, the keybind Combat hasIKNone=(Action=AttackWithAlternateHeavy)which you could bind to RightMouse instead of LockAndGuard. But so far testing it, you can bind RightMouse to Heavy and to Guard and they don't seem to conflict. Tap like a regular attack to use heavy, and hold to guard. So that might be a good solution.Going this direction, you have two options for the shift=sprint/dodge mod. You can change the 'PCAlternate' key so that holding shift no longer readies heavy attack and you can set that to something else. Or you can change your LeftMouse key so that it no longer triggers heavy attack while LShift is held, by just changing LeftMouse from 'AttackWithAlternateLight' to 'AttackLight'. They seem to have the same impact since I don't think PCAlternate is used for anything other than heavy attack.

Also riposte still works, but make sure you hold RightMouse when you try it so you're at least blocking if you screw it up. Tap will trigger riposte over heavy attack, but if you're off then instead you'll swing a terrible heavy attack.Also I found with the sprint mod if you shift sprint towards an enemy, maybe intentionally to get an opening strike, then you'll sometimes 'dodge' as soon as combat becomes active which sucks and makes you vulnerable. One clunky work-around is to double-up the sprint line under the explore heading and make it work for both LShift and LControl or something, and then hold LControl to sprint only when you're going to run into combat.
The little added advantage of this is that when using LControl to sprint escape combat, Geralt won't immediately stop sprinting when he's well-clear of the combat.Edit: Merging heavy attack and block doesn't work as well in fist fights for some reason. But they're easy enough that you don't need it, so whatever. Also 'MouseZ' refers to scrolling the mousewheel up. If you set ToggleSigns to IKNone, you can use the mouse scroll for whatever else you want, since sign scrolling doesn't seem that useful anyways.Also, another neat little combo you can put under Explore and Combat or wherever:IKEnd=(Action=SelectQuen)IKEnd=(Action=CastSign,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.1)IKEnd=(Action=SelectIgni,State=Duration,IdleTime=0.2)When you slow tap the 'End' key (used for testing), it'll select Quen, cast it, then switch to Igni, all in one motion. Useful as a primer before combat, and for a quick-cast while in combat.

Easiest way is to use notepad search for IKW= will be about 4 places it turns up. E will be used for almost all interactions so needs to be switched for some other key like P.
